Noxious Weed Information

Overview

In accordance with P.A. Number 359 of 1941, as amended and Chapter 34, Section 34 to 47 through 34 to 54, of the Romulus Code of Ordinances it shall be the duty of all owners of lands and all adjacent right-of-ways on which noxious weeds, brush or underbrush are found growing, to destroy the same to prevent such weeds from becoming a detriment to public health.

Notice is hereby given to the owner, agent, or occupant, having control of any lot or parcel of land, in the City of Romulus that all noxious weeds, brush, or underbrush found growing on any lot or parcel of land in the said City of Romulus, Michigan must be cut or destroyed when any area of vegetation reaches eight inches in height and/or seed-bearing stage. All residential and subdivided lots shall be cut in their entirety.

If any such owner, agent, or occupant of such land shall refuse to destroy such noxious weeds or cause to be destroyed, it shall be the duty of the Noxious Weed Commissioner to enter upon such land and destroy such noxious weeds.

Subsequent cuttings will be done as often as necessary throughout the growing season, each time at the expense of the owner. If you received this notice outside of the regularly scheduled cutting, you have 5 days from the date of notice to comply with the Noxious Weed Ordinance or your grass will be cut at your expense.

Ordinance Violation

Failure to comply with this ordinance shall make the owner of the lot or parcel of land liable for the cost of each cutting and a $200 administrative fee per lot or parcel for residential lots and $300 administrative fee per lot or parcel for commercial/industrial lots of land for each cutting in addition to a civil infraction fine of $100 for each violation, as well as postage and notification fees.

All refuse and debris on the given owner's property will be removed by the City at the owner's expense. The owner of such land shall pay any expense incurred in such destruction or the City shall have a lien against such land for such expenses.
