Chore Services Application

Non-continuous household assistance to be provided to the eligible client population. Chore services will only be provided to owner occupied residences. Tasks to be provided include yard work- grass cutting, weed whacking and leaf raking - clearing walkways and driveways of ice and snow. Homeowner will need to provide the salt, if that is required, and we will apply it to sidewalk. These services are on a first come first served basis to our low and moderate income senior and handicapped residents.  This program should be considered a supplemental service, as time and manpower allow.

Supplies

The City through the CDBG program will provide the equipment necessary for the program, e.g. lawn mower/snow blower, etc.*Due to the salt shortage over the last few years, salt for winter ice will not be provided and should be provided by the homeowner. The Chore staff will apply salt or a substitute if it is provided.

This program is intended to be a supplemental assistance program and not an on-going maintenance program. All requests will be considered on a first come first served basis. Please be aware that clients that abuse the program may be denied services. Clients that falsify information on their application will be denied services.

Our Community has been very fortunate to be able to use Federal funding through the Wayne County CDBG program for this very valuable service to our seniors.  Funding varies from year to year depending on the total allocation from Wayne County and has often been reduced drastically. Many years we are unable to offer as much but we hope that you appreciate the little that our City can provide and we welcome your support letters and constructive criticism.   Please send your correspondence to rswidan@romulusgov.dom or mlambert@romulusgov.com or the City of Romulus Economic Development Department, 11111 Wayne Road, Romulus, MI 48174. Hope to hear from you.

This program is intended for Senior Citizens and documented handicapped individuals that also meet the income criteria set up by the US Department of HUD. Although Yard/Chore services are intended as a supplemental service and are not a guaranteed weekly service, we will offer services as often as staffing and funding allow. Yard Services are intended for owner-occupied, homesteaded, primary residences and not intended for owner’s rental properties.
